I too loved this book and was anxiously awaiting the movie. I would rate this as one of the most awful movies made out of a wonderful book. Almost everything in it was changed from the book (such as everyone's "needful thing", except for Polly's) and I don't understand that. At one point in the movie where the whole town was just rioting outside would have made no sense to someone that had not read the book. I know it was a long book and things have to be left out, but why all the unnecessary changes.

One of my fave novels. I read this over and over again when it first came out back in early 90's. When they reported a movie was being made I was so excited. As a movie I think it's great! When compared to the book tho, I agree that too much has been left out. The relationshiop between Alan & Polly is only skimmed upon. And the spider in her locket? It never appeared in the movie, except for a bit of scrathing. I thought Nettie was played wonderfully in the film and the fight til the death sequence between her and Wilma was hauntingly stunning! Ave Maria playing in the backround just made the whole scene so tragic.
For the book 10/10, the movie 8/10, points deducted for the rushed ending.
