My number 1 movie of all time!!! I have to admit I find the movie totally overshadows the novel. I think it’s because in some ways they are so different! Whilst they do follow the same storylines, the ending was the creation of Brian De Palma, not King. In the book carrie kills Margerate by stopping her heart. For the book this was great, but the movie needed something a bit more dramatic. he collapse of the house and the killing of her mum are just masterpiece scenes!!! Piper and Sissy are marvelous and I don’t think I have ever seen a film that was acted as well as Carrie was. Even down to the suppoeting actors - PJ Soles as Norma is hysterical! I don’t think this film has aged at all, because the story to me feels like it SHOULD be set in the 70’s. I have seen the tv-remake and although it follows the book a lot closer, I didn’t like it that much. The whole feel of the story was gone because of the updatedness of it all, although the girl who played Carrie did a great job. I thought Margerate White wasn’t even near to being the selfish menacing mother she is portrayed as in the book.
Anyway, for me, the 1976 version of Carrie remains my ultimate fave movie ever made. So I give it top marks!!!
